The Protector Series 4 Own Occupation Disability Benefit Rider (5A, 4A & 3A physicians) In this rider, Total Disability in Your Occupation means that, because of Injury or Sickness you are unable to perform the substantial and material duties of Your Regular Occupation; and You are under the regular care of a Physician appropriate for Your Injury or Sickness. 4 Definition of Regular Occupation Your occupation at the time Disability begins. If You have limited Your practice to a professionally recognized specialty in medicine or law, the specialty will be deemed to be Your Regular Occupation. 4 Non-Cancelable Policy Rider This rider changes the policy to non-cancelable and guaranteed renewable. The premiums cannot be increased prior to the termination date. Also, the rider changes the policy to provide that, if the maximum benefit period is longer than five years and you become eligible for the benefit for presumptive disability, the total disability benefit will be payable for your lifetime. Not available for all occupation classes. 4 Benefit For Presumptive Total Disability If you permanently lose you hearing, speech, sight or the use of two limbs, we will pay the total disability benefit, beginning with the day of the loss. 4 Residual Disability Rider Pays a partial benefit as insured returns to work. Does not require a preceding period of Total Disability. If loss of income is 80% or more, full monthly benefit will be paid. Provides a lump sum recovery benefit following a period of disability if working 30 hours a week or more. 4 Future Purchase Option This rider allows benefit increases to be purchased at each policy anniversary subject only to financial underwriting requirements. 4 Indexed Cost of Living Rider This rider pays an additional benefit after 365 days of disability. The benefit payable under this rider is a percentage of the base amount. The base amount is the monthly total disability benefit plus any benefit payable under the Supplemental Social insurance Rider and/or Residual Disability Rider, if part of the policy. The percentage applied will be based on the consumer price index increase for the prior year, up to 6%. 4 Survivor Benefit If you die while receiving total disability benefits, we will continue these benefits, payable to the owner or owner’s estate, for up to three months, but not beyond any remaining maximum benefit period. 4 Rehabilitation Benefit If you join a vocational rehabilitation program, approved by us, while you are receiving total disability benefits, we will continue these benefits for the lesser of 36 months or the number of months left on the maximum benefit period. We will also pay any reasonable costs for the program not paid by other plans, policies, or programs. 4 Supplemental Social Insurance Benefit Rider This rider pays a benefit if a total disability benefit is payable under this policy, and no legislative benefits are payable for the disability. A reduced benefit is payable if a legislative benefit is payable, but does not exceed the amount of the rider benefit. Other Products
